Charity chief exec delivers PPE to disabled people in the city

Local charity, Possability People has been out and about distributing hundreds of packages of PPE equipment in Brighton and Hove this week. The PPE (masks, gloves, aprons etc) will help keep disabled people and their carers safe during the pandemic.

Possability People was one of only 100 groups chosen nationally by the Barclays COVID-19 Community Relief Fund[i] and its Chief Executive was amongst the volunteers out delivering this week.

The charity has so far distributed 62,181 items to over 400 disabled people and their staff in Brighton and Hove. All the items are of the same quality as that used by the NHS. The charity’s staff worked hard behind the scenes to obtain quotes and five different suppliers were chosen to ensure Barclay’s generous donation went as far as possible.

Geraldine Des Moulins, Chief Executive said:

“Even though we are hopeful the end of the pandemic is in sight, we must all remember to keep on staying safe. It is especially important to remember that disabled people and people with long term health conditions are often more vulnerable to the effects of Covid-19”.

Possability Place, the charity’s accessible meeting space in Seven Dials, was also set up as a collection point, with a socially distanced queue forming around the building. One grateful recipient said: ”whatever you can spare, I would be grateful for anything”.

Geraldine continued:

“While we are all hopeful that this lockdown and the vaccine are making a difference, we must not become blasé and forget the needs of other people around us”.

The PPE is available to individuals who receive a direct payment from Brighton and Hove City Council to organise their own care.

Possability People can be contacted on 01273 894040 or hello@possabiitypeople.org.uk or textphone 07718 424214. The staff are currently working remotely so please leave an answerphone message and they will call you back.

Ends.
