Getting in and around

Level access:

Access to the venue is level, with no steps or incline at the entrance of the coffee shop. There are two large glass doors that open inwards. These are easy to open and relatively lightweight.

Although the venue is not huge in size it has movable tables and chairs that should allow room for mobility equipment to be used. The floor is also level and wooden throughout, making it easier to manoeuvre wheelchairs.

A well laid out, easily accessible venue, with one level floor, free from obstacles. There are many movable standard height tables and chairs and one fixed bench, running along the length of the far wall. This has a wooden back, but cushioned seat. Many of the chairs provide good back support and are soft and comfortable.

Accessible Toilets:

There is one deceptively large wheelchair accessible toilet with a grab/support bar on the back of the door and next do the toilet and hand basin. The door itself is quite heavy and the lock inside is also quite stiff to turn. There is also a baby changing area in the toilet.

My Experience

The menus are displayed on the back wall, via three LCD TV screens. Each has a different background colour to distinguish the different groups of drinks on offer. Staff are very friendly and accommodating and happy to help should any assistance be needed in reading the menus.

New York Coffee Club is very child friendly. There is a small, safe and enclosed soft play area at the back of a cafe for small children to play whilst you enjoy your drinks. This could mean that the venue may be a little noisy at times so bear this in mind when planning the times of your visit, later in the day may be quieter.

The venue is lit by soft lighting and the big glass frontage that lets in lots of natural daylight. There is mid-level background music playing throughout the day giving the venue and upbeat and welcoming feel to it.

The staff in New York coffee club are very friendly and helpful and always have a smile on their faces. They’re also very keen to involve themselves in charity work, and recently hosted a children in need event in the coffee shop.
